PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Solar electric system.
This 4,000 watt grid-tied system uses rooftop photovoltaic panels to generate 100% of the electricity used by this real estate office.  The orientation of these panels optimizes generation during peak afternoon hours for summer air-conditioning.
 
PROJECT COST:  $30,000.
 
FINANCING:  Owner paid two-thirds of the cost.  The balance was paid by the California Public Utility Commission's California Solar Initiative rebate program, at a rate of $2.50 per watt.
 
SAVINGS:  Estimated savings for this system are over $1,000 annually at current electric rates.  The owner's motivation in installing the system was primarily environmental, not economic.
